Title: Battle Angel Alita  (aka Gunnm)

Story: Set in a dark and distant future where Earth is a rotting heap roamed by merciless cyborgs, bounty hunters and other misfits. Floating above Earth is Zarem, a germ-free paradise for upper-class humans. Amidst the rubble of Earth Dr. Ido, a brilliant scientist, stumbles across the wreckage of an old cyborg which he painstakingly works on to rebuild. Once brought back to life he names her Alita, as she has no recollection of her past life. One day she realizes her extraordinary super powers and enters the underground world of a "hunter-warrior" where she battles all who may challenge her for a prize.

Anime Direct Comments: This classic cyber-punk tale should not be missed!! Based on the original manga "Gunnm" by Yukito Kishiro. It combines excellent artwork with a touching story and hardcore action to make an overall excellent anime. They don't make them like this anymore!! What makes this story so successful is its simplicity and great directing in all the scenes but of course the fight scenes are the best part!!.    Rating: 5 out of 5
